One-of-a-kind print by the influential German painter, illustrator, and photographer, Kurt Wendlandt (1917-1998). He was a good friend of the great Heinz Hajek-Halke and they were early members of the 1960's Berlin avant-garde photography movement - Lichtgrafik (Light Graphic). This late 1950's prints is direct from Germany and rare to find in the US. It represents some of the early experiments by Wendlandt of combining light-sensitive materials with traditional artist materials to achieve a unique sense of transparency. Each of these photo linen prints starts with a light silver-gelatin base image from his trip to the Italian island of Ischia (near Capri and the Amalfi Coast) and then Kurt builds upon the print with layers of hand-applied watercolor, tempera and ink to create very evocative renditions of the coastal landscapes. This print is signed, titled and mounted to matboard.
