Robert Alexander Williams

FEATURED ARTIST SPECIAL - DURING THE MONTH OF AUGUST ROBERT ALEXANDER WILLIAMS AMBROTYPES WILL BE 20% OFF THE LIST PRICE. The great novelist, poet and defender of the natural world, Wendell Berry, called himself a “placed” person. His home is Kentucky where his family has lived for generations. He has famously said, “ If you don’t know where you are, then you don’t know who you are.” The ethereal ambrotype glass prints by Robert Alexander Williams could not have been made by a person who was not also “placed.” Robert lives in the Shenandoah Valley of rural Virginia. Using a historic photographic process popular during the Civil War era and camera lenses that are more than 100 years old, he makes portraits of the local landscape that have been described as quiet and haunting. Like Berry, Robert knows where he is and his photography gives you a true emotional sense of his place. GALLERY 1/1 is proud to be the first to exhibit Bob's work in Seattle.
